Jars of Clay Clay artifacts are among the most common finds of an archaeological dig. While archaeologists occasionally find unique clay artifacts, the vast majority are vessels used for everyday tasks and products. These are the type of vessels Paul was referring to when he called the message of the gospel "treasure in jars of clay" (2 Corinthians 4:7).
